I began studying photography in a traditional black and white environment while in University, but a four-month road trip to and through Alaska solidified my passion. I began to read, view and experience all I could about imaging. A natural affinity for technology led me to experiment with the scanning of negatives, and eventually to shooting, correcting and printing digital images. Digital photography is an incredibly exciting tool for artists! It allows you to exactly render the way you felt about a subject when you pressed the shutter. You can truly capture your vision – something more than just a record of time and place.
My award-winning personal photography is centered on amazing and far-flung travel experiences - from Antarctica to the Seychelles, from Galapagos to Bhutan; I’ve been truly blessed with sights and wonders the world over. I want people to get out and explore the world around them. Travel removes prejudices and increases understanding.
Besides my porfolio, I shoot in two main areas locally: small, esoteric sporting events and larger-scale events such as fund-raisers and expos for non-profits. In addition, I teach introductory classes in nature photography. These classes are designed for travelers who need that little jump-start on what their camera can do for them to improve their photography, and what they can do as far as composition and technique to bring home the vacation pictures they really would like to have.
I was born in Colorado and raised in Texas, but believe I am a child of the world - I visited my sixth continent and 56th country this past year. I split my time between the plains of Texas and the peaks of the Rockies, and anywhere else my husband and I can escape.
